College Of Law Ranks No. 1 In Bar Passage Rate

MAY 20, 2019

ATLANTA–Georgia State University College of Law had the highest bar passage rate in Georgia for the February 2019 exam.

The College of Law’s pass rate for first-time takers was 88.9 percent, ahead of all other Georgia law schools and the state average of 65 percent. The University of Georgia School of Law had a pass rate of 85.7 percent, followed by Emory University School of Law and John Marshall Law School, each with 54.5 percent.

For repeat takers, Georgia State’s rate of 63.6 percent exceeded the University of Georgia’s 42.1 percent and Emory’s 35.3 percent.

Wendy Hensel, dean of the College of Law, attributed the school’s performance to strong academic programming overall and a new academic support program that helps current and former students prepare for the bar exam.

“We are committed to ensuring that each and every one of our students has the support and training that they need to pass the bar and be highly competent professionals,” Hensel said. “We have amazing students, and we are so proud of them.”

The College of Law has the lowest tuition among law schools in Georgia and has been named a “Best Value” law college for the past five years by the National Jurist.
